Are you making your father glad?

Good Morning World!

Here is a thought, which came to mind while reading Proverbs:  Are you making your father glad?  The scripture reads like this, "A wise son makes a glad father."  So, I ask the question again.  Are you making a glad father?  Are you a wise son, or at least trying to be?  Or, are you one of the many foolish sons out there who don't have respect for anything?  Society seems to be falling apart at the seams, and I believe it is because we don't have children with wisdom.

What is wisdom?  Basically, wisdom is this.  The ability to understand what is going on around you, and then having the fortitude to act appropriately.  Many people have understanding, but don't know what to do.  Most people have action, but they don't have a clue what is going on, or why people look at them strange.  Wisdom is an equal mix of understanding and action mixed with the salt of experience.  I truly believe that wisdom is developed within a person who is willing to learn.  Learn not just book smarts, but learn life lessons.  Are you willing to learn from other people's mistakes or do you have to learn everything the hard way - by yourself in the school of hard knocks?

This morning let's try on wisdom, understanding and the knowledge to do what is right.  Let us not put on the clothing of the lazy, rude, crude or ignorant.  Rather let us wake up, smell the coffee and look around to what is going on around us.  If you for one moment start looking at life with other people in mind rather than just yourself you will find there is a great big world out there that can be discovered!  Have a little wisdom!  Make your dad proud!

Daily Bible Reading -- Psalm 72 "A Prayer for Leadership"

Good Morning World!

This morning our reading is very important to everyone.  We all need and/or have a leader in our life.  We all have someone whether a person, police force, or government that we must answer to.  We all have people in our lives that lead us: teachers, pastors, business owners, mayors, presidents, prime ministers, premiers, kings and/or queens.  These people lead us, and teach us.  We hope that they are directing us in the right direction, however, sometimes they do not.  This morning's reading is a prayer for Solomon by the passing King David.  We ought to pray a similar prayer for the people in our lives who are leaders.

Psalms 72
 ¹Give the king thy judgments, O God, and thy righteousness unto the king's son.
 ²He shall judge thy people with righteousness, and thy poor with judgment.
 ³The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the little hills, by righteousness.
 ⁴He shall judge the poor of the people, he shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor.
 ⁵They shall fear thee as long as the sun and moon endure, throughout all generations.
 ⁶He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: as showers that water the earth.
 ⁷In his days shall the righteous flourish; and abundance of peace so long as the moon endureth.
 ⁸He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth.
 ⁹They that dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him; and his enemies shall lick the dust.
 ¹⁰The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall bring presents: the kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts.
 ¹¹Yea, all kings shall fall down before him: all nations shall serve him.
 ¹²For he shall deliver the needy when he crieth; the poor also, and him that hath no helper.

Daily Bible Reading & Devotion -- Psalm 21

Well, it is another great morning here on the great Island of Newfoundland. (At least in our part anyway!) The wind is blowing a small gale, the clouds are rolling in, and one can feel a little chill in the air again. The mild weather may soon be gone, but God is Good All the Time!

Psalm 21

This is a great chapter for leadership. People in positions of charge, command or oversight need to know that they can have God on their side. Sometimes as leaders we feel all alone, and we don't have anyone around that we can lean on. When we put our trust in Jesus his salvation, love and guidance are always there! He is here to hear our prayer, petitions and supplications. He is here to protect, save and keep us.

Leaders learn to rejoice in the strength of Jesus that is in you through the Holy Spirit. (If you do not have the Holy Spirit with in you read Acts 2 and find a preacher who preaches full truth to guide you in preparation of the heart to receive it.) Leaders learn to rejoice in the Salvation that Jesus brings every single day!

Jesus will find out your enemies before they strike. Jesus will destroy their plans before they have a chance to destroy you. Jesus will make sure you have the tools you need to lead effectively. Our part is to lift Him up. Our honor is to Exalt Jesus openly! Our glory is to give Jesus all the glory. So, swallow your pride and give Jesus some praise. Trust me it will be well worth it!
